DFS Windows 2003 SP2 with Windows 2008

By jgatschuff ·
I am in the process of upgrading our network from W2K3 SP@ pre R2 to a mixed environment of 2K3R2 and 2K8.

We are using DFS on the W2K3SP2 DC.

I need to, preferably, migrate the data on the 2K3SP2 server to a new W2K8 DFS server. This is to simplify the migration of home directories which currently have administrator restricted permissions.

Is this possible and if so, how?

Thanks in advance.

Administrator Restricted

If the admin can't access the folders, how exactly are you going to migrate them?

The easiest solution is to assign the admin account permissions and then set up your DFS share. Users should have change permissions and not be the listed owners on folders.

If they are concerned that the admin is looking at their files, have the admin sign a NDR and be instrcuted not to be looking at user's home folders. Then it is an HR issue and easily handled.

I would like to know if it possible to connect a DFS Win2K3preR2 to a Win2K8 DFS system.

What is the best route to accomplish this.
