DHCP causes loss of shared printer use?

by malikjaru . Updated 18 years, 8 months ago

Using Windows XP Home with laptop and desktop. Printer is connected to desktop with USB and is shared with laptop. Every now and then laptop no longer can print. When I check ip settings, find out that ip address has changed on the laptop or desktop or both. Have to go into Zone Alarm firewall and re-configure trusted addresses again so that printing for laptop works again. It’s a pain! Have shared printers with other laptops and this has never happened. Cannot figure out how to keep this from happening again. Need advice.
