Tell the salez guyz to remove the PCMCIA network adapter from the notebook before powering it up.

You need to enable two different hardware profiles for these laptop users. You can setup an additional field profile where the hardware configuration does not include DHCP searching with the LAN card. Right click on my computer to get to system properties; click on the tab that says hardware profiles; in there you'll see your current configuration; select copy and rename it to whatever you like....field or something; highlight the new HW profile (field) you just created and select properties; there are two tabs; one is general (for enabling/disabling docking devices and the other is the network tab; select the network tab and check off "network-disable hardware profile. By doing this, you or the user will be prompted during bootup to choose between current configuration or field. If you choose field, network devices will be ignored and DHCP will not be enabled. Let me know if this helped.

Tell them to hit "Escape" when prompted for their password to bypass log in.

if guyz are running win95 or 98 then boot into off network hardware profile, go to device manager, and remove network card -- tell machine "disable in current hardware profile" when prompted -- no nic, no net, no errors

if winnt, double check theoff network hardware profile -- check this is a portable computer and network disabled hardware profile -- never had any problems with this config
