dhcp distributes wrong subnet mask

By Sapinto ·
i'm administaering a network running winnt as pdc and bdc. there are other servers running win2k. the pdc also acts as the dhcp server. the problem is that the dhcp server issues the wrong subnet mask. instead of issuing class c subnet masks, it issues class a. how can i correct this?

Here are a couple of possible resources:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;261489

If that doesn't apply, it sounds like the DHCP scope may have been set up incorrectly, in which case you will likely have to delete the scope on the DHCP server and recreate it with the correct information.

Good luck!

Check if your W2K DHCP has been authorized and activated to lease the DHCP scope. It is possible that a rogue DHCP, or your WINNT PDC is causing the lease of erroneous subnet. If you have downlevel clients, you must have a WINS server to servicethis downlevel clients. I am lost though as you have a W2K PDC, I do not see why you still maintain a WINNT BDC?. IN W2K domain, all controllers should be primary.

just to clarify. both the pdc and bdc are running on nt machines. it seems that the dhcp server is only issuing the wrong subnet mask to xp machines.
