DHCP LEASE EXPIRED?

By vue ·
DHCP lease expired? I get this when trying to connect to the interner. I heard of it, but couldn't recall. Need a refresh. Thanks in advance.

DHCP LEASE EXPIRED?

You get a TCP/IP address from a DHCP server. DHCP servers make life so much better for a network administrator. He or she does not have to be concerned about duplicate ip addresses etc. The server will hand out the ip address for example to your computer and by default the "lease" period will be for 3 days.If by the end of the lease period your computer has not been successful in renewing said lease you will lose the ip address immediately.

DHCP LEASE EXPIRED?

Hi, in addition to response #1, the client attempts to renew the lease after 50% of the lease time expires and it tries to do so from the originating dhcp server. If the client does not receive a response, it tries again when 87.5% of the lease timehas expired and will attempt a lease renewal from any dhcp server (assuming more than one is available). Once the lease expires, the client must broadcast for an ip address and if no ip addresses are available, the client will not be able to have anip address until one becomes available.

Go to Start/Run and type in winipcfg (Win9x) or ipconfig /all (NT). You can then do a "Release All" and Renew All" to get your IP lease back.
