Hi,I am really looking for some expert advice on this matter.I run a 30 user NT 4 network with Win98 clients.IP addresses are assigned by DHCP and I use several hubs/switches with 100mbs NIC.Recently I installed Cisco 760 ISDN router so my LAN userscould access internet. However my ISP (British Telecom)have told me to ensure the router operates correctly the clients need to have fixed IP.I did this and it works fine but I am left with 15 users on DHCP(non-internet) and 15 on fixed IP(internet).I can ping all users from server and they can use network files etc but I cannot browse thru network neighborhood which causes my backups not to work for some reason ?
Question 1)This is not ideal to have users split into DHCP & IP is it.The entire LAN should be on 1 or the other?
Question 2)Why is the server unable to see clients thru network neighborhood but can ping address.
Question 3)I have been told that the Cisco router hides the IP address of my LAN clients. If this is so,is my networkfairly secure from the outside world !!Or at least fairly secure.
Thanx for your help on this matter.
