DHCP Server for XP Home

By jasonljw ·
I have recently acquired a broadband connection and wish to share with my family members. The ADSL modem is connected to a desktop pc running XP home. There are two more PCs, one running XP Home and the other running WinME. Both client machines are set to obtain IP automatically but the ip assigned to it is the 10.0.XX series instead of the 192.168.0.X series. Where can I check the DHCP server on the PC connected to the ADSL modem directly running XP Home? Any idea to my problem?

There is no dhcp server on your network. You could use APIPA but that would set your addresses in the 169.254.0.0 - 169.254.255.255 range. Why do you think your machines should have addresses begining with 192.x.x.x? You could set up ICS. Need to know how? Up the points.

Depending upon the DSL/Cable router, DHCP services should be in the router and configuratble for IP address scope. Check your user manual for additional instructions on client configuration.

note: most home use routers use a browser for configuration and status checking. Again, the manual that came with the router has the instructions for accessing setup via a web browser.

No idea how the points system works. Anyway, I think the ICS is allocating incorrect IP address to client PC (ie 10.X.X.X) instead of the 192.168.X.X I am using now). It would be easier to manually set the ip since there are only 2 PC.
