DHCP Server Time

By smith.garry ·
I have found that the DCHP server, which is run from a router is a day behind. It is giving lease times as a day behind. Will this cause problems? Where does the DHCP get its time from. I was told by the people who put it in, that I must have a server or computer with the wrong time, but I haven't, after checking them all. They said that the router is set to the right date. Any Ideas.

The time and date settings are configured on your DHCP itself, just like you do it on any other PC, via the Control Panel.

If you want your DHCP server to get it's time and date from another server, then do the following:
Open a Command Prompt and type the following line: net time \\[servername] /set /y.

If you want your DHCP server to synchronize regulary with another server, then you can put this command in a batch file and let it run with a AT command.

Hope this will help you.

Are you running MS DHCP server from BEHIND a router? If so, then the previous answer may work... But is sounds to me like you are running a DHCP (BOOTP) server ON THE ROUTER - in other words the router IS the DHCP server. Is that right? If so, then what kind of router is it? Cisco? If so, you can verify the clock on the router without actually having "enable" rights to it.
Telnet to the IP address of the router. At the router prompt, type the following:

Router>show clock

When you hit Enter you should see something like this:

09:15:13.398 UTC Wed May 10 2000

Verify that this is the right date...
