DHCP - Static ip & Lease times - Windows 2000 Server

By youngturk ·
Hi Folks,

I need to assign static ip addresses to various workstations on my network. The server already has DHCP enabled & assigns the ip addresses for everything on the network.

Also, I need to set the lease time for everything else that may connect to the network to 24Hrs.

Can anyone give me a quick "how to" to achieve this please?

Many thanks!

How much do you know about Windows DHCP Server?

You can do one of two things here....
1. Manually configure the network settings of the devices you are assigning static addresses outside the scope of your DHCP.

2. In the DHCP server you can add in reserved IP addresses, to do this follow these instructions...

1. Go to Administrative Tools on your DHCP server.
2. Open the DHCP server
3. Expand you server which will be ( -- ip address)
4. Expand the Reservations option.
5. Right click in the right hand pane and select New Reservation.
6. Enter a name for the reservation
7. Enter an IP address for it.
8. Enter the MAC address for the device, usually on a sticker on see your network settings on the computer.
9. and a description then click Add.

Thats it.

Lease time is specified in the DHCP Manager Create Scope or Scope Properties dialog box, and can be set directly in the DHCP Options dialog box.
