DHCP Will not Renew on Cable Modem

By eraser3498 ·
I have an Arris CM450 cable modem which I use to connect to the internet and lately I've been having trouble with it dropping the signal. I today the modem has tried to aquire a new IP from my ISP DHCP but has been unsuccessful 2500 and counting. The internet is still function normally though with no issues. I also use a Dlink DI-624 router to share the internet connection to 3 computers. I've tried various solutions to the DHCP problem such as resetting the modem and the router, removing the router and connecting directly none of which worked. AS far as the connection drop goes unplugging seems to work sometimes for a while but the conncetion drops again. Here is the event log for the Cable modem:

20000200 No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out

20000400 Received Response to Broadcast Maintenance Request, but no Unicast Maintenance opportunities received - T4 timeout

17000100 SYNC Timing Synchronization failure - Failed to acquire QAM/QPSK symbol timing

13000300 DHCP WARNING - Non-critical field invalid in response

8010100 DHCP RENEW sent - No response

If anyone has any ideas on these issue your help is greatly appreciated.

if you are using windows xp or windows 2000, then the DHCP client service might need to be restarted. you can go into the system services by using the services.msc command in the run command box on the start menu. right click on the DHCP client service and click restart. it might possibly be your computer needs a windows update. there is a update for the DHCP service on the windows update website, but since you are having problems with the internet, then you might not be able to download it. but try restarting that service first before anything else.

DHCP Server is the ISP's and when the modem requests a new IP I receive 8010100 DHCP RENEW sent - No response. The IP address does release and renew with a different IP when I release and renew it from my end but it does stop the modem from send a DHCP renew request.

Why not just report the issue to your ISP with the same detail you have here. I guess their DHCP systems (whatever they may be) are not functioning correctly. What can you really do when it is not your DHCP server or network.

You could also try a static IP to the tune of your last current working DHCP IP address. Least it would to is alert the ISP if a conflict is shown.

I've contacted my ISP and as far as I got was "That's Strange". I expected an answer like that from service provider, or the ever popular its your computer. So I wasn't expecting much from them I was just wondering if there was anything I could to resolve the issue but its their server I guess I'm out of luck. Thanks for the help though

Have you released and renewed your ip on the main computer. Checked to see if you have any bridges on any of your computers.

Can you see all your computers on the network and are networking fine and getting on the internet. Do you have any firewall blocking you.

Have you checked to see if you have a defective router\modem. It might be you just have to do a firmare upgrade.
