dhcp.mdb

By shannon.murphy ·
Does anyone know how to edit the Dhcp.mdb database to compare IP address assoication with a computer name with packet sniffer results? Neither Access 97 or 2000 can open this database (unrecoginzed format)? Thanks.

Not 100% clear on what you are trying to do here, but if your network is using WINS for name resolution, you can type in
"ping -a a.b.c.d" to resolve the NetBIOS name from the IP address.
You can't open the DHCP.mdb file with anything other than the dhcpadmn.exe utility which is part of the NT resource kit.

I am trying to find an easy way to map each IP address to a computer name to compare with our packet sniffer results which show only IP address (in other words who is going where). Downloaded a thrid party utility to do this last night. Thanks forthe information on opening dhcp.mdb, thought something like using the resource kit might be the case, but was hoping there was a way to convert the database to be readable by Access.
