dial-out via modem over dsl ? Possible?

By crlawler ·
To cut expenses I dropped my phone line and use my cell for business calls.

The first problem I ran into is I needed ro test a modem on a PC I repaired for a fee.

I have three choices,

connect the modem to the dsl line for dial out and testing.

connect the cell phone to the modem for dial out and testing.

Suffer the $40.00 a month to have a phone line that I rarely use, no incoming calls, no faxes,
etc.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

A modem should work fine on your ADSL/DSL line, you shouldn't even need to disconnect it. The modem will probably connect at a lower speed (unless you disconnect your dsl and splitter) but it should work.

Well, unless the modem's really screwed and fries your line - can't say I've ever heard of it before though.

G.Brown is right

I had to use my old modem when lightening hit my adsl modem. I had to order a new adsl modem.

I have tested laptops for other peoples using a dial out modem and bothe the adsl and dial out modem worked at the same time

good luck

A dialup works fine on a dsl line. Don't forget a filter.

You have to get to the line that feeds the dsl modem.

You cannot get a dial tone from ethernet.
