Dial-up connection Unavailable
LockedI have a HP Pavillion 720a running Windows XP Home Eddition SP1. The Conexant SoftK56 Modem is attached to Com3 and queries with success. But in Network Connections shows Unavailable – device missing.
I have tried relocating the modem to a different PCI slot, and tried a new Netcomm IN5920 PCI V.92 modem, but the situation is still the same.
I have tried removing all connection settings, and then removing the modem, COM1, COM2, LPT1, and both USB ports in Device Manager, then shutting down and letting XP find and reload the ports on startup, but still no joy.
When I have a look at the properties of my dial-up connection, under the General Tab is shows Connect using Modem – Unavailable device (COM1), with no option to change the selected device.
I have searched Microsoft Knowledge Base articles that suggested deleting some Telephony settings in the system registry, did this but still no success.
I’m open for any suggestions before I do a system restore.
