Dial up error at start up

By rdl ·
After installing and deleting Blackberry desktop Manager 4.7 I now get this pop up error message. WIN XP Pro. Don't use a dial up connection.

Titled "Dial up error"
"We are sorry. it seems like a previous connection hasn't been cleaned up properly.

Restarting your computer should clear it up(err=38)"

A restart does not clear it up.

I used a registry cleaner.."Reg Cure" but that did not fix this error pop up.

Any ideas out there.

After installing and DELETING?

If you deleted and didn't go through the UNINSTALL routine, of course it's going to complain that it can't find/do something.

Try reinstalling, then UNINSTALL.

Error 38 applies to some sort of network connection

by OH Smeg In reply to Dial up error at start u ...

This could be a LAN through Wires or Wireless or a Dial Up problem. Here I would think that the Blackberry app hasn't been correctly removed so reinstall it and reboot the system.

When it restarts open the Control Panel and left click on Add Remove Programs wait for the list to populate and then scroll down it till you find the Blackberry Application highlight this by left clicking on it and then left click on the remove Tab to the right hand side in the highlighted bar. You will be prompted to make sure that this wasn't a mistake and then the application should be removed properly. When this is finished restart the computer and see if the error appears.

Depending on what you have done here it may require a Repair Install as per the directions here if you have a M$ Branded Install Disc for XP

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315341

Or if you only have a System Makers Recovery Disc or Partition on the HDD you may be required to reinstall the OS. If this is the case here make sure that you backup all of your data before proceeding any further.

Dial up error2

Did you find a solution to this problem? I know I encountered it once before (an earlier laptop) and it was some service or something that was running, and I just had to shut it off.

HOW TO REMOVE DIAL UP ERR #38

by PRESivLEY In reply to Dial up error at start u ...

After uninstalling and reinstalling then uninstalling again the Blackberry Manager, I still got the "Dial up error" popup at each bootup. I could not find any resolve on the internet so I found the solution myself. I hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and opened up Windows Task Manager and Right Clicked on Dial Up Error (under the Applications Tab) then clicked on Go To Process and discovered the file "PalmTether.exe" was the cause of this error. I then searched drive C (with system and hidden folders options selected) for this file. It is in folder C:\Program Files\PalmTether, so I sent the whole folder to the recycle bin after I checked this folders date which is the same date as when I installed my Sprint Palm Centro software last year. THIS FIXED THE PROBLEM, ALTHOUGH I MAY HAVE TO REINSTALL MY CENTRO SOFTWARE. I do not know what PalmTether is even for as there is a seperate "Palm" folder for synchronizing your phone. PLEASE REPLY IF THIS SOLVES YOUR PROBLEM AND/OR PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT PALMTETHER IS FOR AND IF IT IS REQUIRED.

WHILE THE TASK MANAGER WAS STILL OPEN, I ENDED THE DIAL UP ERROR MESSAGE AND PALMTETHER.EXE BEFORE I SENT THE FOLDER TO THE RECYCLE BIN.

Dial up Error #39 - Palm Tether

by rchmielinski In reply to FORGOT ONE DETAIL

The Palm Tether app is what allows you to use a Palm device (mine is a Treo 700p) as a modem for your laptop. It "tethers" the Palm device to the laptop for the internet connection. I use it for traveling. Interestingly, the error message went away after I merely reinstalled some apps, the Palm Tether being one of them. Go figure...

Palm Tether

by FinProf28 In reply to HOW TO REMOVE DIAL UP ERR ...

Tethering is a process where you connect your palm device (in my case a Centro phone) to your laptop and then you can use the phone as if it were a modem to connect to the internet. I have used this feature through Verizon Wireless and it was extremely helpful until I got this err #38 message. I don't know if Sprint has the same service available.
