dial-up modem in connection wizard not available

I did a Windows XP Repair on my computer and when it was finished I found the Start-Connect To [isp]icon was missing so went into new connection wizard and went through the following: 1. connect to Internet 2. set up connection manually 3. connect using dial-up modem. But I could not acccess this as only the broadband part was highlighted. How can I get the’connect using a dial-up modem’ function to work again?
