Dial up Networking hangs up Modem

by dinstone . Updated 25 years ago

I have two PC’s connected to the same line via dial up modem. One runs 98 and the other NT Both worked fine until about two months ago when the NT workstation started to hang up the modem constantly. It will work fine while data is transferring but as soon as it gets some idle time it drops out. Through a lot of chopping and changing I think I have eliminated all but the PC (3 modem’s, 2 Phone cables, 3 Serial cables, 2 ISP’s, other PC on same line has no problems, local telecom’s diagnostics gave a perfect result) I have changed the modem properties setting for disconnecting a call if idle from 0 to ~8000 and even modified the DisconnectIdleTime registry key but nothing seems to fix the problem. Has anybody got any ideas.
