I have a laptop that I have loaded Win98 with FAT16. I am not able to make any dial-up connections. The message I get says that it can’t establish a compatible set of protocols, and suggests checking my network settings. I am sure that I have everything set right. I have tried my on-board modem as well as a network modem. I have tried dialing different numbers. I have removed (and actually deleted and replaced files) dial-up adapter, Client for Microsoft Networks, my network adapter, modems, etc. After replacing all this I still have the problem. Any suggestions? I’m about ready to reformat and reload, but would love to avoid that hassle.
