Dial-up with LAN connection in XP Pro

By 262noni ·
My dial-up connection in XP Pro was working fine until I installed a LAN connection in my computer. I was planning to use the LAN connection to gain access to the Internet at the office and my dial-up connection for browsing at home.

I can connect to my ISP through my dial-up connection but I cannot browse the Internet. I tried disabling the use of a proxy server in my dial-up connection setting (Internet options) but this did not seem to help.

I hope someone can help me figure the correct configuration. Thanks

You probably need to disable Proxy settings in the LAN Connections bit in Internet Options as well.

You may also have to change the dial up and vpn settings in IE to dial whenever a network connection is not available.
IE tools \internet options\connections

I think it might be your DNS settings on your Dial up connection.
Check if you can resolve URL's to ip adresses after connecting to your ISP with your dial-up Connection.
You can do this by performing the ping command.
fe : ping www.yahoo.com
if you get something like : ping request could not find host....then it is a DNS issue.
perform in a command box ipconfig /all and check what DNS servers you are using.

thanks, but I did that as well. I could ping yahoo.com. I also tried the configuration in a computer running Win 2000 and it is working. I suspect that it is in the IE config but I don't know what else to configure.

Go to tools, internet options, connections.
set the dial up proxy settings in the
Dial up and VPN settings box.
scan through to find your dialup and then set the settings.
