I am not sure that anything will help the speed process,I upgraded to a 56K modem and I found out that my 33 did a better job.It depends on a few things like the telephone cable, yet here is one fix I tried and I still donot get connected any faster.Best option is to contact your ISP and verify the connection speed of your modem.Good Luck

Look at http://www.windrivers.com and click on the modem support center. From the following page are links to the various modems/chipsets. From there you can find info on dialling strings and other ways to speed up the dialling process.

CHECK WITH isp TO SEE WHAT CONNECTION SPEED YOU ARE SET UP FOR.Most 56K modems will speed dial only to a certain capacity and that will depend on your telephones and how clear the signal travels. There are diagnostic tools that will test the speed ofyour modem.

I have expierence the same problem upgrading to 56K and my modem dialed in faster with the old modem at 28.-

Dear labskaus,
The reason for this is that the 56k modem will first try to connect at its maximum speed of 56k, and if that is not possible due to a possible hardware compatibility with the access router of your ISP, or due to a bad line with excessive noise, it will then try to negotiate a smaller speed.
I have often found that different modem brands can often connect faster to your ISP, usually even up to 7-10 seconds. I have found LT winmodems to be especially reliable and fast, tryan LT winmodem and test your luck.Hope this helps, good luck
Nicholas

Go to
Start
Settings
Control Panel
Modems
Properties
Extra Settings
and enter S11=50
save the settings and your modem will dial faster. This shortens the time between tones sent as your modem dials and makes the process go faster.
Speedy dialing!

If you new 56K modem is not connecting at the higher rater with you current ISP you might try changing the maximum speed setting on the modem. That would quicken your connect time but you may want to check other ISP and see if you can connect with them at the higher rate. It may not be possible because the old wiring in you house could be causing the problem.

make sure you have “log onto network” unchecked in your dial up networking properties. go into dial up networking, right click on your dialer and select properties, click in server types tab and make sure log onto network isnt checked

There are two ‘standards’ for 56k modems, K-flex and v90. If you always dial the same site, try setting one … then the other as the default ‘first try’ protocol. If you get the right one first, it might help speed the process up .. a little bit.

Hello!
it is quite simple. the reason that it takes longer is that it’s settings are loading from a software platform. the settings on you sportster was a hardware platform. To speed it up go to your modem in control panel and edit your commands to just AT&T (no it’s not a joke) that command will get you dialing and handshaking much faster and usually faster. Good luck!-

In your communications software you should have an option to enter additional dial commands for the modem. Enter “ATS11=50” (without the quotation marks.) This will reduce the space between the touch tones to 50 milliseconds. You can try substituting smaller numbers in place of the 50 but, most phone companies do not support dial speeds over 50ms.

Take a look at the following:
Open the Dial-Up Networking folder, right click on the icon for your ISP and select ‘Properties’.Chose the ‘Server Types’ tab, and then under Advanced Options uncheck the ‘Log on to network’ box, and make sure that’Enabled Software Compression’ is checked. From under Allowed Network Protocols uncheck ‘NetBEUI’ and ‘IPX/SPX Compatible’.
