Difficulty with sound

By bmillard ·
My sound on an IBM thinkpad 600x would not put out at a very high level (real quiet) so I uninstalled the driver thinking it conflicted with morpheous that was just installed. Now I can not seem to make anything work and do not know how to diagnose this problem. Do not know if it is the device or if I have the proper driver reinstalled. I have tried trouble shooting the drive (win 2000 wizard). I've gone to the ibm site that says the driver for win 2000 is in the directory...well that does not work...

any advice will be wellcome.

Did you download and setup the right driver in the first place? Did you insert any new cards? Does uninstalling Morpheous help - have you got the right version of it? What all have you tried?
A methodical step by step going back may give you the answer you are looking for.

Has added some suggestions. I guess the questions are not clear. However, like many windows issues little is clear.

I have not uninstalled Morp. I have attempted to download the proper driver but the IBM web site indicates that for 2000 the driver is installed and does not have a driver on their site.

At a loss.

delete the sound driver. reboot. get the OS cd out and when it comes up if it doesnt find it right away direct it to the cd. A driver shouldnt have anything to do with volume tho. Maybe the speaker is going kaput already.

Assuming the drivers are OK and up to date. The next thing to check is any siftware ie. Media Player 7 or other programs that have adjustments regarding your sound that could override Windows defaults. You have not said what the card is so I'll haveto guess. I have found that Equalizer software in particular has the tendancy to override Windows settings. For example older versions of WinAmp.

Good Luck!
