Ding Sounds, Ding doesn't sound

By George ·
When I try to play ding.wav from the Sounds-applet in Win95 it can't be heard.
When I double-click the file in Explorer it is opened and can be heard.
How do I make it heard when connected in the applet to a Windows-action?
Formerly there was no problem, somehow it stopped working. Also no problem with playing CD's (except when playing House, neighbours start complaining <gr&gt
TIA
George

Windows 95! "How do I make it heard when connected in the applet to a Windows-action?"
To a windows action you say. Well go start button to Setting..to Control panel..to SOUNDS...there you can assign sounds to actions..keep the sounds short and remember assigning sounds to every action slow things down.

That's just the problem: assigning a sound to an action does work, but you don't hear the sound.
When I open the same sound-file outside the control panel, it sounds!

You are talking about assigning sounds to windows actions that are listed in "Sound" in the "Control Panel"? You have assigned sounds there and tested them there (in the Sounds panel you are able to test the sounds assigned to each action? What have you done that might have caused your problem? If you had sounds for actions and somehow you moved the wav files...you need to go into sounds and browse to the new location of the wav file.

That's what I'm wondering. What can have happened that you can't hear them anymore! It's almost impossible somebody moved them! With Find I find them still in the original location! And from there I can make them heard over the soundboard! But not in the Windows Actions applet!
Try again please.

George,
Why not reinstall win 95(or if you have a friend with win98 or ME). Don't format and install. Just install over your version. You will not loose any data and it should fix your problem, If you really determined to get your sounds back..Do adefrag first if you choose to reinstall....

If you choose to reinstall win95 over your system make sure you have the "WIN 95 cd" and not a "restore cd"..which would wipe your data out and restoe your system back to its original setup...any questions...just ask..

Thanx, but I already tried to reinstall sndrec32.exe. That seems to be the program that gives the problem. With any other music-program I can play the sounds but not with sndrec32. And that's the one that's used by the sounds-applet.
Other suggestions?
