Where can I find information (pref step by step) on this?
Machine A says its all OK machine B says 'Disconnected' (but it ain't)

The Microsoft knowledgebase has trouble shooting solutions-Q195240 and Q195710
These sites offer troubleshooting cable connections that may be more helpful

Make sure you are using the correct ports ie parrallel to parallel
From inside control panel select "Network" 1. Check that you have installed compatable protocols ie.netbui
2. check you are using the same client ie Client for Microsoft Network
3. Make sure you are also using the same workgroup name
4. enable file and/or print sharing on the host PC
5. from inside windows explorer right mouse on the file or drive you wish to share and enable sharing.
If after you have done all the above and you still can't connect try a new cable
