Direct cable connections

By meltvn ·
Hi

I want to know if I can use direct cable connection on a computer that has no operating system installed. The Hard dive is formatted and booted with a boot disk. I need to install windows but there is no CD ROM in the computer. I want to use ashared CD player on my computer to get access to the CD ROM so that I can copy the Setup files? The host is a notebook computer.
Or is there another way ore program that can be used to connect to the shared CD ROM so that I can setup Windows?

Thanks Melt

Yes, provided the boot disk has network drives loaded on it.

To amend the previous answer: Yes, if it has the correct network drivers and startup files.

I have found it is much quicker and easier to just open the case and hook up a cd-rom drive temporarily, booting with the Windows 98 startup disk.

I have done this many times for a pc with no CD drive.

You need DOS "Interlnk.exe" and "Intersvr.exe" these are small DOS programs that can transfer the entire WIN95/98 operating system onto the hard drive.

I am sending these two programs and intructions to you via email.
