Directory Infastructure - Security

By keith.winter ·
We want to map a drive for all users to a common folder, called "group". Under this folder we have about 100 other shared folders with security restrictions. Our problem: we don't want to show all 100 folders if you don't have the right to access them....just show the folders which you have access rights to under the parent folder called "group".

Novell was able to to do this, not sure if Windows 2003 or 2000 will let me do this.

Any help is much appreciated.

I have not tested this, because it would take a bit to set up. The settings you are looking for are in the advanced security settings area. In the security tab, click on the advanced button. Edit a group you want to restrict and experiment with "list folder/read data" and "Traverse Folder/Execute File" Watch out for Bypass Traverse checking in Group Policy because this can affect your results.

You might also just consider mapping more than one drive to the users where the drive mappings they get are dependant on the groups they belong to.

Good luck,
