DirectX 9 on Vista and some general gaming talk

by nonapeptide . Updated 18 years, 5 months ago

I’m constantly annoyed with DirectX errors whenever I install a DX9 game on my Vista machine. I think I’ve only got one or two games to work on Vista (I’m not a huge gamer, I just want to see what an 8600m GT can do). Does anyone here have any experience with installing DX9 on Vista? I’ve seen a few threads, but I’m still not sure if I want to do it.

Can DX9 and DX10 cohabitate on the same machine? Something tells me that that is unlikely.

That said, does anyone here have anything to say about the gaming experience on Vista? Am I stuck with Purble Place for a while until some nice DX10 Games come out? I’ve looked through this list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_with_DirectX_10_support

However, I’m not a fan of gore, bloodshed, and flaming destruction. That pretty much rules out 99.9% of all new releases. Although there is a game called Aquadelic GT that looks cool, but there’s no demo for it… and I need demos before I buy. I wish there were some good co-op games or 3-D run-and-jumpers (Crash Bandicoot, etc.) for the PC (specifically with flashy DX10 graphics). Anything action-based sans the explosive dismemberment. Comic anvils are okay though: http://www.rabidlab.com/games/dodgethatanvil/gallery.html#dta

Oh well. No fun for me. Back to studying.
