Disabaling windows password.

By simonfuzz ·
We have an NT network with many of our cliants running windows 95 or 98. When we logon we have a network logon and then the windows logon. IS there anyway to disable the windows logon.

Not sure about disabling it, however if you clear the password box the first time a user logs in it will never ask for one again. Simularly if you change the password to blank " " then it won't ask anymore.

The reason you have two logon screens, is because the computer logon and the network logon are different. If they are the same, you will only have one logon.
Solution, go into your control panel (on each workstation) and find your Password applet. Open it up and change, either the network logon, or the windows logon to match the other.

Hope this helps.

The problem is one of synchronization (or lack of there of) between the Network Password and the local Windows password.

To solve the problem, delete any .pwl files in the Windows folders of the affected computers (the .pwl file is the local Windows password file). The next time the user logs on to the network, the user will be asked to verify his password as if this were the first time he logged on. This will synchronize the 2 passwords.

The problem creeps up when either a user is asked to change his network password at the log-on screen (if this is done, it won't change the local Windows password as well), or the user attempts to change his password from the Passwords applet in the Win98 Control panel without checking the Microsoft Networking box.

Hope this helps.

You can also try TweakUI to do automatic logins for 9x and NT.
