Disable all CD burning

By Sprocket ·
Does anyone have the registry edit to disable all CD burning in XP Pro. I want to disable all CD burning, including Nero not just the built in Windows XP burner.

You can use GPEDIT.MSC to disable Windows burning and use Nero BurnRights tool to restrict who can burn to CD.

I need to do this remotely away from the machines. So hoping for a registry edit.

Why not just take out the burner and replace with just a cd-rom?

I have already throught of that. First is cost, yeah CD-roms dont cost must, but its a waste and laptop CD-roms cost more. Second is, its just a pain in the arse.

I agree with number 2, if for some reason you put burners in all these guys and have figured out it was a bad security idea. Remove the burners. I mam sure they would find a way around your policy if they have the hardware and are persistant enough.

Just make the users who have the cd burners users with less access. Do not let them load programs, use devices, you can set what you want for users as a administrator of that computer and the network. I have set up two users to only have access to two drives and no access to local hardware. They can login do thier work and save it, but can not save it to disk or cd and I have stopped them from down loading from IE. This was a problem for the two because they were down loading music and games.
