Disable Drive A

By Petadove ·
Is there a way to disable the use of the Floppy Drive without physically disconnecting it? I want to disallow users from copying files from my system.

Any suggestions???

You don't mention what operating system you are using.

If you are using WinNT/2K/XP, and are using the NTFS file system, you can apply permissions (tied to specific user accounts) to the folders you want to protect. This will prevent access to your sensitive files.

You could buy a physical floppy lock such as is found here:

If you do not need to access the floppy drive on a regular basis, you could disable both the floppy drive, and floppy controller in BIOS settings.

Then, password protect BIOS settings.

If it would be possible for users to open the case, install a case lock.

Depending on your version of Windows, and how other users log on, you might be able to use hardware profiles and remove the floppy drive from the user profiles.
