disable internet explorer properties

By jthibodeau ·
Can anyone tell me how to disable the properties for IE 6? The old trick of renaming the inetclp.cpl file doesn't seem to want to work on this version.

Thanks

The easiest thing to use is group polocies(gpedit.msc). If for some reason this is not applicable then you can manually edit the registry. You will probally have to add entries to this location: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions]

an entry such as "NoBrowserOptions"=dword:00000000

you can make a .reg file to implement this and use it in a login script or have it run at startup using the regedit /s command.

Yes. I have a file the I can send you that will explain how to change the reg. Send me an email at raharr@scdjj.net and I will send you the file. I have to do alot of restrictions such as disabling downloads and installing of software, etc.

Here is the information for blocking the toolbar options in IE.

These restrictions allow you to selectively control which toolbars are available in Internet Explorer, including the Address, Tool and Links bars.

Open your registry and find the key below. Create the key if it does not already exist.

Create a new DWORD value based on the options below, and set the new value to equal "1" to enable the restriction or "0" to disable the restriction.

NoToolbarOptions - Disable the ability to change toolbar selection.
NoAddressBar - Disable the address bar.
NoToolBar - Disable the tool bar.
NoLinksBar - Disable the links bar.
Restart Internet Explorer for the restrictions to take effect.

(Default) REG_SZ (value not set)
NoToolbarOptions REG_DWORD 0x00000001 (1)
NoAddressBar REG_DWORD 0x00000001 (1)
NoToolBar REG_DWORD 0x00000001 (1)
NoLinksBar REG_DWORD 0x00000001 (1)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbars...

Settings:
User Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbars\
Restrictions]
System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\
Toolbars\Restrictions]
Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value: (0 = disable restriction, 1 = enable restriction)
