Disable onboard video Poweredge 6400

by david.pollard . Updated 18 years, 12 months ago

Hi There,
I have a PowerEdge 6400 server which has an onboard video controller. I have purchased a better PCI video card so I can use this machine with Second Life.

When I install the card the machine won’t boot at all. The fans come on but the monitor never receives a signal no matter which port it is connected to and nothing appears to happen beyond that.

Take the card back out and it starts up fine.

I thought I may have to disable the onboard video card but looking through the bios there is no video settins at all. I have read throgh the manual and (clutching at straws) I hoped to find a jumper setting on the motherboard that would let me disable the onboard video but no luck.

Any ideas on how I can get my big hunk of a computer to boot up with my nice new PCI video card.

BTW the carrd is a Nvidia GeForce 5500 with 256mb ram.

I tried the card in different slots including the one standard 32 bit slot. (Slot 1)

David
