Disable or make floppy drive read only

By Sprocket ·
Is there a registry edit to either disable or make the floppy drive read only.

I know the registry edit to hide drives, but this is no good, I need it either disabled or Read only.

You will probably have to disable it in the BIOS and set an admin password for BIOS settings.

This script is designed to use a GPO enforced Admininstrative template that will achieve that goal:

You may also want to look at DeviceLock, which will lockdown any device you specify:

A couple of options:

Manage Floppy Access from Recovery Console (Windows 2000/XP)

Registry Settings

System Key:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Setup\RecoveryConsole]

Value Name: SetCommand

Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)

Value Data: (0 = restrict, 1 = allow)

----------

Restrict Installations from Removable Media (Windows 2000/XP)

Registry Settings

User Key:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer]

Value Name: DisableMedia

Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)

Value Data: (0 = default, 1 = enable restriction)

The first one is no use and for the second we want users to access floppys but not write to them.
