I want to prevent my machine from answering ICMP echo requests to prevent people from pinging my gateway server that's connected to the Internet. Kind of like Microsoft's website. Can this be done on Win2K?

I'm already using one of those products but they only let me know what someone is doing but don't let me completely disable it from happening. These programs are good for closing ports and preventing apps from communicating but pings are designed topass through firewalls, that's where the problem lies.
A question: do you have a router on the "outside" of your gateway? If so, you might consider blocking icmp ping/ping response there instead of at the gateway itself. I also believe that you can turn off pings at the firewall as well. I know I never get a response from our security devices (PIX and Checkpoint1 firewalls) when I try to ping them. Just proposing an alternative. Best wishes. - ck
Currently the Gateway is acting as a "router" and the firewall software we are using is running on the Gateway machine, but only temporarily until we get our PIX and routers installed. (We are a startup company) But Thanks.
