MSN MESSENGER? Just goto control panel ... add / remove programs. Unless you are using microsoft's 98 admin tool (Zero administration kit), there is no way of fully locking someone out from installing that program or any other program for that fact...

I hope this helps, but you probably already knew this.

Good luck

just go to start->run type there msconfig a dialog box is displayed on the last tab that is the startup tab click there and then u can uncheck the msn check box which will tell you to restart the pc.
This should solve your Problem

Hi,

Win 98 does not have the native lockdown capability, short of that, you eitehr upgrade to at least W2k or purchase an expansive internet filter box, several grand which has active packet filtering. I have the same problem with my users, education of proper internet usage with the companies assets, i.e., computers, should also be mentioned, it seems to work in most cases

if your server or computer has a firewall you can block tcp port 1863 which is the port that msn messenger runs on. It wont remove MSN from your systems but it will stop people from using it as blocking the port will make sure that you cant connect to the chat service.

Type or copy the following into notepad and save as "Msn.reg". Not "Msn.reg.txt". And then import the Msn.reg into Registry by double click on the file.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Messenger]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Messenger\Client]
"PreventRun"=dword:00000001
"PreventAutoRun"=dword:00000001
