Disable screensaver for some programs

By einius ·
Hi,

I want to disable screensaver for some particular programs. I use Win2000 but other Win tip could help too. I have used one feature of shortcut for DOS executable: Properties-Misc-Allow Screensaver, but now I need disable screensaver for non-DOS program.

Regs,
Einius

Here's a thought.

You could create a simple batch file to execute your program. A shortcut to that batch file could be placed on your desktop. It would look something like this:

Line 1 – disable screen saver
Line 2 – Call program(For example, Winword.exe)
Line 3 – enable screen saver

You would have to define the path to the program file in either the line that calls the program or perhaps in a set path command in a previous line.

I didn’t look into it in great depth, but I believe that the batch command that would disable a screen saver is the SetLocal command.

Example:

SetLocal | DisableExtensions
WinWord.exe
SetLocal | EnableExtensions

ENDLOCAL must be issued to restore the previous settings

My syntax is incomplete, but I think you’ll get the idea. You may have to do a bit of research to discover the exact syntax required, or perhaps another person could help in that regard.

A variation of this could be a batch file to change the registry screen saver setting to off.

Good luck,

Ideas are good but I had the same idea. Answer is good except I do not understand syntax, use etc. of setlocal so I choose registry.

There is a registry patch that you can download from http://www.aumha.org/regfiles.htm

Perhaps, you can modify the patch to function with other programs also.

It will need to be placed into the registry settings for each program that you desire to disable the screen saver.
