DISABLE WINDOWS MESSENGER POP UPS

By jay ·
RE: WIN XP. I HAVE A COMP. THAT KEEPS GETTING WINDOWS MESSENGER POP UPS (UNSOLICITED). I HAVE DISABLED THE SOFTWARE (I THOUGHT) THROUGH THE GROUP POLICIES PROCESS, BOTH AT STARTUP AND UNABLE TO RUN...BUT THE POP UPS DO NOT STOP. IS THERE ANOTHER WAYTO TURN IT OFF? OR IS THERE A WAY TO FIND OUT (AND STOP) IF THERE IS SOMEONE WITH REMOTE ACCESS/CONTROL OF THIS VIA SOME SORT OF PLANTED SOFTWARE, ETC.

DISABLE WINDOWS MESSENGER POP UPS

The following link is a good article regarding the pop ups, basically, you should just need to stop the Messenger service:

Remember to remove any spaces in the URL.

From my understanding, many of the personal firewall software products can also help you with this issue (and naturally it is a good idea to be using them anyway).

Hope this helps!

Open up Services and turn off the Messenger service, then set it to Manual.
