Disable winpopup message send

By matthew_morgan ·
I need our students to receive Winpopup (win98w/s on an NT4 domain) messages from the print controller but don't want them to be able to send messages.
Anyone know how to do this

Disable winpopup message send

Check this link
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q122/1/60.asp

The article goes over disabling the notification, but it does tell how to
enable them if you do the opposite.

I do not believe that 98 clients have the abilityto use the net send command.

Hope this is helpful

You need the Messenger service enabled and started for the printer to send messages to users. To avoid them sending messages to each other you can use several tricks:
1) Hide the shortcut to winpopup and / or rename it.
2) Use a local policy (policy editor) "Allow run only authorised widnows applications". Warning: do not forget to include poledit.exe with the authorised applications.
