Disabling Programs Menu in WinXP Start Menu

By lfruchter ·
Is it possible to remove the Programs Menu from the WindowsXP Start
Menu? THAT would let me lock down a User account fiercely!

Disable Programs

If XP Pro, go to run and type:

gpedit.msc

go to User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar.

Find "Remove Common Program groups from start menu"

Enable

Should remove All Programs from Start Menu.

Bear in mind, users can still go to C: Program Files and view contents unless changes are made there.

Hope that helps.

Sorry, I meant using something other than gpedit. I need to
disable the Programs menu for one user while keeping it
available for several others on my non-networked
workstations. I've seen the workaround for selectively
applying gpedit changes in XP and I'm even using Doug
Knox's wonderful XP Security Console. If I can disable the
Programs menu with something short of gpedit, I can quickly
replicate it on all my other machines.
