I’ve a problem w/ a document that has disappeared from a user’s HD. A user saved a doc in Word97 to her HD several times during the day, closed Word after the last save and when she later went back into Word was unable to open the doc. Attempting toselect the doc from doc list under the File menu results in a ‘Document cannot be opened (filename.doc)’ dialog box. She’s running Win2K on a PIII w/ 128MB RAM and lots of HD space.
I searched the entire HD and the user’s LAN drives by filename,portions of filename, various text strings, for .tmp and auto recover files w/ no luck. I searched TechNet and even rang MS who said they didn’t know why or how. I turn to you, my tech-brethren, for help–What would cause this? Where might the file have gone? Thank you kindly!
