    Disappearing favourites in IE5

    Locked

    by andy32 ·

If you upgrade your browser from IE3 to IE5, all links contained within c:\windows\favourites are lost. If you backup your favourites folder prior to upgrading, IE5 still removes all links after you have copied them back into your c:\windows\favourites directory. I have now started to find IE5 installations which if you add a particular link in to your favourites folder, IE5 will loose this link once the browser has been closed down and re-started. Is there any Microsoft documentation that explains this, or does anyone have an top regedit fix that will resolve these problems.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

    Cheers,

    Andy

Could it be that you are copying them into the wrong folder? Do you have a Windows\PROFILES\Andy or PROFILES\Administrator folder if so I would use the favourites folder at that location e.g. windows\profiles\administrator\FAVORITES.
Other ideascheck the Tools menu Internet Options, to see if there is a path to yet a different folder.

Your right guys in that we have roaming profiles enabled. However, having looked into this through your suggestions, if I delete all profiles (c:\windows\profiles\userXX)and then allow the profiles to be re-created when user’s log back on, no favouites folder’s are created. If I create a favorites folder under a user’s profile and add a couple of links, these are still not picked up by IE5. If I do the same for c:\windows\favorites, the links are removed automatically. If I perform a search, nolinks are found. My head is starting to ache.

        Regards,

Right on! Sounds like you have profiles enabled…or you have a really screwed up machine.
