Disappearing printer/fax drivers – MS Update?

UPDATE: Of course, I’ve reinstalled the s/w by now. I guess no one else had drivers disappear in this way. This is closed.

Windows Vista Business, Laptop PC

Yesterday morning the HP Wireless OfficeJet Pro 8500 printer and fax drivers were gone. My security is strong, firewall, router, etc. There are no other problems with the laptop.

I have two questions:

1. What caused this? I am wondering if it could be that the files just happened to all have lost fragments/pointers on the hard drive at the same time or if the major Microsoft update that needed a reboot, 2 days ago, (I have the reg fix to prevent the auto reboot) did something untoward. Or…

2. Is there an easy way to just recreate these drivers using some HP tool? I am not finding any reference to this or the problem on HP’s site.
