disaster recovery

I m had backed up my xppro system using novastore 6.7 tape backup. When I restored hard drive with tape backup system would lock up during bootup.
It iniallay gets xp splach screen and then screen goes blank. I tried booting in safemode and last good config .. I dont understand why rebuilding with tape backup not working. I first reloaded xp and novastor and then retored from tape.. Im really upset cause till now I was a firm beliver in tape backups.. Please help
