Disconnected Network Drive

By kgreenway ·
Since implementing DNS Server to our Windows 2000 network, W2000 professional PC's show disconnected drives??

Using login scripts which use Net Use command, but certain drive letters are appearing as disconnected Network drive in My Computer.
Any suggestions??

Disconnected Network Drive

You didn't mention if you can connect to them through the drive mapping intially. Windows 2000 has a registry setting that will disconnect the drive mappings automatically once the timer times out. If you check Microsft knowledge base it has an article that will tell you how to adjust the setting so that it will never time out and thereby not show a disconnected icon for the drive mapping. It should be no big deal since once you re-click on the drive mapping it re-enables the connection.

Sorry it isn't actually a registry setting. It's a setting that you can change from the command line. The article from Microsoft knowledge base is called "Drive Mapping May Time Out on a Windows 2000-Based Computer (Q297684)" hope this helps.

The drive mappings show disconnected from startup. This only seems to effect 2000, XP...NT, 9x is fine. I also find the same MS Article but unfortunately no joy.

Users are living with it now, they've got used to clicking on disconnected drive.
