    Disconnecting when using P2P

    I am runnign Windows XP Home edition and my ISP is AOL. I continually have a problem when using P2P applications suck as kazaa lite or bearshare etc that after a few minutes the program disconnects me from the internet. After which i am forced to restart my PC, and everytime i try to restart my PC it stops on “saving your settings” and doesnt shut down so i have to switch off the power. Please can anyone help me!

      how long have you waitied for it to shut down?
      it can often take 3-4 minutes for windows to get past the saving your settings screen.

      if you have been hard rebooting then you can be agravating the problem by messing the fs up.

      clean temp files, hit reboot and go to bed. it should be up and running again and solved that problem by the time you get up.

      most of the p2p require adware, it slows the system down during reboot, and operation, it also uses you data transfer and logs other app out of the circuit.

      sine the nic is dropping it isn’t running under the right drivers. update them

      Boot up PC into safe mode(Press F8 at startup)
      and try system restore to a previous check point.
      This might work.

      Scan the system for malware, trojans and worms being introduced with Kazaa, Bearhare, etc. Your issue is most likely being caused by something that was passed on to your system via a peer-to-peer network.

      AdAware and HijackThis should be able to assist you in identifying the exact culprit.

      xp sp2? have you try turning off the Windows firewall (from control panel) for a test. you running other internet security software. mcafee? norton? tiny firewall? zonealarm? did this use to work with aol? have you upgraded your aol lately
