Disk Full Saving to Shared Drive

    Locked

    by agbart5 ·

I have a couple of users who get the following error when trying to save to a shared drive (disk full). There is a lot of space on the share. We are running SP4 on the work stations.

    Thanks
    Alex

If you are using MS project, MS Word, MS Excel, and maybe some other programs it will give this error if the user does not have delete access on the shared drive.
The reason im not sure but i think is because when you edit a file it does not write the data directly to the file instead it creates another file and keeps the changes there and only when you save does it write it to the original file and after a succesfull write it deletes the file it created when you started editing the original file and since you dont have delete permission it will never save it.

Answer #2 Looks good (I’ve seen the same thing) If thats not it: Is there any quota management app on the server (is it running Win2k? or a 3rd party app)?

      Hope this helps you! SFO

Check the share permissions as well as the folder permissions. The message says the “Disk is Full” because the pplication cannot write to it.

Many DOS applications used to check the available free space before attempting to save to a drive. DOS can’t figure out what to do with drives that have more than 2 gig of free space, so many DOS apps will tell you that a drive is full, when in factthe drive is not. Test this by going to a machine with the problem and attempting to save to the same share or drive where the supposedly “full” condition exists using explorer or some other app.
