What is the easiest and most viable way of saving files and settings into a CD from a group of WinNT machines.
I am responsible for the well being of 40 WinNT workstations with many users changing settings and deleting important files. I would liketo just insert the CD and restore my machines….

The easiest way is to get a network bootdisk for the computer (you can try this place, http://www.bootdisk.com) and after you’re connected to the network, use Symantec’s Ghost to create a disk image of the computer to the network. Then you can make a CD ofthis image.
For a more complex, but easier to maintain solution, I’d recommend using an Imagecast server. With imagecast you can create rules on the server, that allow the image to be automatically installed on a target computer, when it’s booted using a bootdisk created with the Imagecast server. I haven’t used Ghost in a long time, so I’m not quite sure how advanced it is.

This is not exactly an answer to your immediate question, but you may be interested in the following hardware device. The centurion guard by Centurion Technologies. http://centuriontech.com. This device allows you to fully lock down the station with the use of a physical key.
