Disk mirroring

Hi,

I have 2 ide hard drive on the same controller and established the mirror,but if I remove one hard disk it is giving "ntldr is missing " error.

Is any controller is required?.

You need to break the mirror before you can boot from the second drive. Simply open Disk Admin, right click either drive and click "break mirror".

Then you can remove the first drive and boot from the second.

Hi,

My understanding on this is that the boot.ini will still have an entry for one disk or the other to begin the boot process.

Software mirroring can only begin after the system has booted...

You need a boot floppy to tell it to boot from the other disk if its the "wrong" disk that fails or in your case, is removed.

Alternatively, if you could boot off another disk again, ie. install one temporarily, and then you could directly modify the boot.ini

Most people go with the first option, though!

You have to edit the boot.ini file. This file is used to tell the system where the nt loader (ntldr) is located. For more information check out the following MS KB article

I read that if disk miirrored, one of the disk failed os will read from another disk. Is it not applicable to boot partition??.
