Disk Quota Entries - Not reflecting usage

By jpkelly2 ·
I am having a major problem with the disk quota
entries on a Win Server 2003. I have user home
folders structured under a users folder
(created through active directory) that maps on
each user login.

When I go to the drive's properties/quota and
entries... they do not have the correct usage.
The data in each respective user home folder
was dragged from a relative user home folder
from a Win2K server.

Any ideas? This is killing me. All
parameters/limitations are correctly set for
the disk quota. Thanks in advance.

I was under the impression that unless the quota was applied at the root level that it would operate correctly, but show the space on the entire drive.
This article implies that with a bit more work it can report accurately.

Fixed! Quota Management

by jpkelly2 In reply to This might help

Alright, this may seem like a glaring
oversight to some: In the migration of
the Users home folder to the other server,
WIN2K to Win2003. I originally designated a
new path in active directory, which
automatically created the users home folder
on the new server. Then I simply dragged and
dropped the data from one window to the new
one, logged into the server as admin.
Because of this, the 'ownership' of the
folder and its sub-folders/objects gets
designated to the 'Administrator'.

To correct this, I had to manually change
ownership under advanced security properties
to reflect that of the user and made sure to
check the box to include all sub-
folders/objects.

Once I did that and refreshed the quota
entries it immediately reflected
user disk usage in the quota entries.

I hope this helps some other person in the
future that may have the same simple
oversight.

Wish I saw this before

Yes we had similar problems when we migrated from 2000 to 2003 everything moved over to admin owner ship.

I had to write a script to move ownership back to the user.
