Has anyone ever heard of cooling a Harddrive in a freezer to make data recovery easier on a failing drive?

What?? Where did you get that information? Never heard, sure it's a hoax. If a HDD is dead, it's dead. The only way to recover datas is to make sure you know how old your HDD, if at least it's 3 years old, then make sure to back it up to a new HDD, and keep using your old until it went dead, then replace it with your the drive that you made the copy. That's what I do, I don't care if the drive just go kaput, I got the copy anyway.

Yes that does work if the problem with the hard drive is a componet heat problem. Where when the componets heat up they fail.

In fact you will find that here on TechRepublic.

Search for the article "Download 200 ways to revive a hard drive"
