Diskeeper 5.0

By stepheniwilson ·
I have heard that there are "3rd party issues" using diskeeper 5.0 on NT4 using either HP or Compaq servers. It sound quite unbelivable. At present I am concerned to install this software untill I can either discard the statement or prove it to havefoundation.

Diskeeper 5.0

by Dennis@l In reply to Diskeeper 5.0

There are some Issues, 3rd party on not I don't know. I did a side by side evaluation of Diskeeper 5.0 and Symantec Norton Speed Disk. The was a tremendous difference in the reported results by both programs and no huge proformance improvement resulted from either. Since the defragmented results were better with speed disk, I stuck with it, because of previous experience in using it with DOS win 3.0 and Win 9x. What you need to know is which program is capable of working with open files, I couldn't find that out at the time I did my evaluation either. Symantec will send you a CD Not for resale (NFR just means no support, but they will answer your questions) version of speed disk fo NT, if you call them. Try runing your own test on a system that is not mission critical.

I'm using DiskKeeper 5 on a Compaq Proliant right now, with NT 4.0 with Service Pack 6, and I don't see any problems with it, it works very well.

I have used both Speed Disk and Diskeeper. I disagree with the first reply stating that Speed Disk seemed to do a better job. Actually, long term I feel Diskeeper does a better job. I have had software conflict problems with Speed Disk, and have had some problems with Undelete, which is another Executive Software program, but not with Diskeeper. I've been very pleased with its performance on both HP and Dell servers. Hope this helps!

I currently Run Diskeeper 5.0 and am moving to 6.0 on a combination of over 100 Compaq and Dell servers with no conflicts the only thing that I have had is that I have had to uninstall and reinstall Diskeepr if I had to do any drive repartionining but that is a rare occurance. Other than that Diskeeper Runs great.
