Display a blank form in Access 2000

By AJD ·
By default, when you open a form, Access 2000 displays the first record in the table that the form links to. Is it possible to display a blank form instead, for confidentiality reasons, until a specific record has been selected?

Display a blank form in Access 2000

There are two solutions which I can think of for your problem:

First, you can set the font color of the data fields to the same color as the background except for your key field or for the textbox which you will use to select a specific record,when a record is selected you can change the font color to one that is different from the background.

Second option is to have the data in a subform which is by default not visible and is only made visible when you select a specific record using the main form.

Hope this helps you out,

Rafik El-Raheb.

I assume you want to display informatin on a particular account so I will word this that way. Also assuming you wish to type the account number in and not select it from a list.

First:

Create a new form in design view. Do not select a table or query leave that area blank.

Place a text box on the form. Change the lable of the text box to read appropriatly.

Add a command button to the form. Choose Form Operations > Open Form.

Select the form you want to open.

Choose: Open the form and find specific data to display.

On the left side highlight the text box.

On the right side highlight the account field.

Then click the <->

Choose: Text

Lable the button accordingly.

This form is now functional you can change the format later.

Now on your account form in the Properties Section click the format tab. Set Default View to single form.

Use the selection form you just created and you will only see data on the account you entered.

Note: Youcould use a list box or combo box instead of the manual input. Butfor that the form does need a table or query and at that time you would not have to know the account number a could just select it form a list. This would however defeat the need toonly show one account as anyone could select any account they wanted from the list.

Hope this helped,

Mark

Another option would be to set the forms RecordSource property through code. For example when the form opens you could say
Me.RecordSource="Qry_BlanRecord"
Qry_BlankRecord would be a saved Query that returned no results from your data table. When the User made their selection your code would then be:
Me.Recordsource="Qry_GetData"
Qry_GetData would populate your form with actual data from your table.

Good Luck
